This ceramic cowboy hat was an exercise in translation; to an organically shaped object and translate it into a geometric ceramic version. I started by mapping out the original item and adding some changes that I wanted to incorporate into the clay version. I built the hat with even thickness slabs, piece by piece until I got it to the right shape. Afterwards I decided to accentuate the connections to make it more than just a simple translation of form.

Scope of Work
Over the past few years I’ve become familiar with a variety of materials and process and types of design. I’ve worked with wood, textiles, and metal as my primary materials but I love to explore unfamiliar materials. In addition to traditional design (furniture and product) I’m also interested in jewelery design as well as engaging in speculative and critical design.
